Impaired driving arrest

A woman will have to go in front of a judge next month after getting busted for allegedly driving drunk in Chatham.

It started around 3 a.m. Sunday when police received information about a possible impaired driver in the area of Lacroix Street.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. According to police, the driver initially failed to stop for officers before finally pulling over on Richmond Street between Raleigh Street and West Street.

Through investigation, police believed the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested.  The woman was then transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

As a result, the 26-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and flight from police.  She remained in police custody as of Sunday morning and will be released when sober pending a future court date in January.
