COVID-19 cases spike in Midwestern Ontario

Parts of Midwestern Ontario experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases Thursday.

Huron Perth Public Health added 17 new cases, for a total of 71 active cases. Five people are in Hospital. Three of the new cases are in Howick, one in Morris Turnberry and one in South Huron. Seven new cases were confirmed in North Perth, four in Perth East, one in Perth South, and one in West Perth.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen says the outbreak at Stratford General Hospital is under control and they are working to contain an outbreak at Listowel Memorial Hospital.

Cedarcroft Retirement in Stratford is still under outbreak status, but there are no active cases. The outbreaks are over at Northside Christian School and St. Mary's Catholic elementary school in North Perth.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added 77 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to the list today, and reported 270 active cases. 14 people are in hospital.

15 of the new cases are in Wellington, where there are 55 active cases. Three people are hospitalized. An outbreak continues at Caressant Care in Arthur where two staff and seven residents tested positive.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported six  new cases, two in Hanover, and one in West Grey, Meaford, Brockton and South Bruce.  There 34 are active cases, six probable cases and 205 high risk contacts. Four  people are in hospital.   Lee Manor Long-Term Care Facility in Owen Sound remains in outbreak status.
