Just four days after setting a record for the highest single day increase in COVID-19 cases, London and Middlesex County have done it again.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported 53 new cases of the virus on Monday. That breaks to previous record of 52 that was set last Thursday. Fortunately, no deaths were reported so the death toll remains at 80.
With the latest cases, the London region's total case count since the start of the pandemic is 2,121. The number of recoveries is listed at 1,743.
The outbreak at University Hospital is currently affecting nine units, with 77 patients and 79 staff having tested positive since early November. There have been 15 deaths linked to the outbreak.
Outbreaks remain in effect at long-term care home Chelsey Park, as well as two other seniors' facilities - McCormick Home in London and Country Terrace in Komoka.
Elgin and Oxford counties are reporting their highest number of new cases in a single-day since the pandemic began. Southwestern Public Health reported 31 new infections on Monday, eclipsing the previous record of 30 that was set Friday.
The total case count for that region now stands at 766. Resolved cases have risen to 615. The death toll is unchanged at nine.
Ontario reported 1,940 new cases on Monday, the second highest daily total since the pandemic began. Of the 1,940 new cases, 544 were in Toronto, 390 in Peel, and 191 in York Region. Windsor-Essex reported a record 195 new cases.
Public heath officials said 23 people died from the virus over the last 24 hours. The province's death toll now stands at 3,972
There are currently 857 COVID-19 infected patients in hospitals across the province, including 244 in the intensive care unit and 149 on ventilators to breathe.
In the last 24 hour period, just over 57,000 COVID-19 tests were processed, leading to a 4.7 per cent positivity rate.
