Police find knives, crystal meth on man wanted for weapons and drug offences

A 50-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for some weapon and drug-related offences -- along with failing to attend court -- is in even more trouble with the law now.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man Sunday afternoon after spotting him out on Wellington Street in Chatham.

Officers said when they searched him, they also found some suspected crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, a glass drug pipe on him.

Police said they also found a flick knife, and a homemade knife in his possession even though he was banned from having any weapons.

As a result, the man was charged with drug possession, failing to comply with his release conditions, and a pair of weapons-related offences and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Alleged shoplifter arrested

A 26-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for shoplifting from a local pharmacy has turned herself in.

Chatham-Kent police said the woman is accused of walking into the Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham last week Tuesday night, concealing some items in a bag she was carrying, and then walking out without paying for them.

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $170.

Police said they were able to identify a suspect after reviewing some video surveillance, adding that the woman turned herself in at police headquarters Sunday morning.

The accused was charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime, then later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man accused of stealing from Walmart and Dollarama

A 45-year-old Walpole Island man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly stole some items from Walmart and Dollarama in Chatham.

Police said both of the incidents took place Sunday afternoon, adding that officers were able to catch up with the man and arrested him.

The accused was charged with two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property and he was later released with a future court date.

Woman arrested following family dispute

A 38-year-old Chatham woman has been arrested and charged with assault after a family argument allegedly got physical recently.

Police said the incident started when the woman attended her sister's home in Chatham Friday night. Investigators said an argument allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, adding that the accused left before police arrived.

She was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with assault, then released with a future court date.

Man accused of domestic assault

A 38-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault and uttering threats in connection with a domestic violence investigation.

Police said they arrested the man on Sunday after they were called to investigate a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Officers said the man allegedly assaulted and threatened his common-law wife during an argument.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man accused of assaulting woman he was supposed to avoid

A 42-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly assaulted a woman he was supposed to stay away from.

Police said they arrested him after they responded to a disturbance call on Grand Avenue West in Chatham Sunday night.

Officers said as a result of their investigation, the man was charged with assault and failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was later released pending a future court date.
