Ontario Premier Doug Ford is scheduled to announce Friday any movement of health units from one COVID-19 colour code to another.
Huron Perth Public Health Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, explains the decision is ultimately make by cabinet. But it's made on the recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, with consultation from the local MOHs.
Dr. Klassen says her report was that the data is showing Huron and Perth has been improving.
“Our data has been improving and our numbers now are more consistent with orange. My concerns are too, that moving to the red level might impact those places where I'm not really seeing transmission happening in Huron and Perth.,” said Dr. Klassen.
Klassen acknowledges that there are high rates of transmission all around Huron and Perth.
“I know that there are high rates of transmission all around us as well. Wellington, Dufferin, Guelph, Waterloo, London and that is also taken into consideration. But certainly, at this time, Huron and Perth's numbers are consistent with orange,” added Dr. Klassen.
She also points out their public health capacity to respond to cases and contact tracing and hospital capacity are all still adequate.
For Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph it could mean a move to red.
Grey and Bruce are currently under Yellow-Protect.
