Road tests on hold for residents from lockdown regions

You shouldn't be seeing anyone from Toronto at the road test centre in Chatham.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) recently ordered all DriveTest Centres to stop booking road tests from COVID-19 lockdown zones.

Effective November 30, 2020, applicants who reside in Grey level or lockdown regions may not book a road test at a DriveTest Centre in a different region with a lower COVID-19 level. Effective November 23, 2020, all road tests at the Brampton, Downsview, Etobicoke, Metro East, Mississauga and Port Union DriveTest Centres were also cancelled without penalty.

"If you live in the Grey (Lockdown) level and try to attend a DriveTest location for a road test outside of your COVID-19 level, you will be turned away," said the ministry in the notice. "Inside services at these centres continue with capacity restrictions and COVID-19 preventative measures in place."

The MTO also said all applicants who recently changed their address from a location in the Grey (Lockdown) level will be required to show proof of residency. DriveTest Centres offer driver licensing and examination services, such as knowledge tests and road tests, on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation.

Toronto and Peel Region remain in lockdown. Windsor-Essex remains in the Red-Control level and London and Middlesex County are in the Orange-Restrict level. Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton sit in the Yellow-Protect level.
