Woman threatened with a machete

A 60-year-old Chatham man accused of threatening his girlfriend with a machete is facing a handful of charges.

Police received information on Wednesday about a domestic violence incident that allegedly occurred on December 6.

Police said the 60-year-old "verbally attacked" his girlfriend and that led to a physical altercation. The accused allegedly pointed a machete toward his significant other and threatened her.

He was charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, and uttering threats. He was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.

A damp situation at a Chatham business

A case of mischief at a business on Richmond Street in Chatham has caused about $50,000 worth of water damage.

A fire alarm at a business went off around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday. When officers went to check out a room in question, they saw water spilling into the hallway from underneath the door.

A man was inside the room at the time but reportedly refused to open the door for police. A door ram was eventually used in order to get into the room.

Police said a 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with mischief and false fire alarm use. ------------

Break-in suspect arrested

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a break-in on Wednesday.

An officer on general patrol stopped a man who was riding a bicycle on Charing Cross Road at 9:30 p.m.

Following an investigation, police said the 28-year-old allegedly broke into a compound at a nearby business and stole electrical cable, thermostat cable, and copper flexible pipe. He reportedly put them in a garbage bag for transport.

The stolen property was worth approximately $200.

He was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man accused of break and enter, theft

A 22-year-old man accused of breaking into a shed on Grand Avenue West in Chatham has been arrested.

Police said the 22-year-old allegedly stole items from the shed on Wednesday morning but he was arrested and charged shortly after.

The accused was also wanted on a bench warrant for failing to attend court.
