48 new COVID-19 cases reported in Windsor-Essex

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported 48 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

The additional cases bring the regional case count to 3,988.

The transmission source of a majority of the newest cases is still being investigated. Two cases are from close contact of a confirmed case while one is community-acquired. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit also noted that one case previously reported did not meet case definition on Saturday and was excluded.

Meanwhile, 15 more people recovered from the virus in the region over the past 24 hours. A total of  3,446 of the cases in Windsor-Essex are listed as being resolved.

There are currently six long-term care or retirement homes,  nine workplaces and three schools in COVID-19 outbreak. There are also two hospital outbreaks and one community outbreak.

Elsewhere, Ontario marked a record high for new daily COVID-19 cases. Provincial health officials reported 1,924 additional cases on Sunday. The case count in Ontario now sits at 127,309
