UPDATE: Two dozen additional COVID-19 cases in London-area, one new death

London-Middlesex reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

The latest cases bring the regional case count to 1,782.

There was also one additional death in the region reported, bringing the total number who have died from the virus in London-Middlesex to 76. The latest death was a man in his 60s who was not associated with a long-term care or retirement home.

The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at University Hospital has spread to an additional unit, now affecting seven units in total.

On Saturday, the LHSC announced that the virus has spread to the fifth floor cardiology unit. The number of staff members who have tested positive since the outbreak began last month now reaches 49, while the number of patients who have contracted the virus remains at 64.

Meanwhile, 16 new recoveries were reported on Saturday. So far, 1,447 individuals in the London-area have recovered from the virus.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit covering St. Thomas, Woodstock and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported 13 new cases on Saturday with the case count now sitting at 614.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 1,859 new cases on Saturday and 1,624 more resolved cases.
