80 new cases added to Windsor-Essex COVID-19 case count, one new death

Health officials in Windsor-Essex reported another jump in COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

The local health unit reported 80 new cases, bringing the regional case count to 3,941. A total of 427 cases are currently active.

The transmission source of a majority of the newest cases is still being investigated. Meanwhile, nine cases are from close contact of a confirmed case, two are community-acquired, two are agri-farm workers and one is a local healthcare worker.

There was also one new death reported in the region on Saturday. A man in his 80s from Windsor-Essex is the latest person to pass away from COVID-19 locally. Eighty-three people have died from the virus so far in the region.

There are currently seven long-term care or retirement homes,  nine workplaces and three schools in COVID-19 outbreak. There are also two hospital outbreaks and one community outbreak.

Two more establishments were also added to the possible COVID-19 exposure list on Saturday.

Anyone who visited the Footlocker in Devonshire Mall on November 27 from 1 to 8:30 p.m. or November 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. is asked to monitor for symptoms of the virus.

The A&W on Dougall Avenue in Windsor was also added to the exposure list. The dates of exposure are listed as November 21 from 2 to 10 p.m. and November 24, 26 and 27 from 5 to 10 p.m.

Elsewhere, Ontario reported 1,859 new cases of the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 125,385.
