Collisions reported in CK

Two drivers involved in two separate collisions in Chatham are in trouble with the law after they reportedly didn't apply the brakes when they should have.

A 19-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to stop for a red light after a two-vehicle crash happened Thursday afternoon on Bloomfield Road near Richmond Street.

Police said no injuries were reported but damage is estimated at $20,000.

In a separate collision, an 82-year-old Chatham woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution following a two-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon.

She was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign after two vehicles collided on Harvey Street near Raleigh Street. Damage from the crash is estimated at $9,000.

Chatham-Kent police were also called out to a couple of crashes that involved deer. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

Mischief complaint at Via Rail Station

A 29-year-old man accused of damaging a vending machine at the Via Rail Station on Queen Street in Chatham has been charged.

Police said a complaint was made Thursday night. The 29-year-old was found in the area and officers later found a pry bar in his possession.

The accused was charged with mischief under $5,000. He has a future court date scheduled for January 27, 2021.

Speeding charges laid

Seven drivers were busted for speeding in a traffic blitz.

Chatham-Kent police said officers conducted traffic enforcement in Morpeth and on Chatham Street in Blenheim on Thursday morning. Seven drivers were stopped and ticketed.

Forklift reported stolen

Police are looking for a red Moffett forklift that was reported stolen from Adams Industrial Forklifts on Richmond Street in Chatham.

The forklift was stolen sometime between Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and Thursday at 7 a.m. Police said the forklift is worth approximately $20,000.

Man charged with failing to comply

A man who allegedly broke a few court-ordered conditions is now charged with failing to comply.

Police said a man was ordered to stay at his home in Glencoe unless there was a medical emergency, to not communicate with a Chatham woman or go to her home, and to not have any knives outside of his home.

Officers received a tip on Thursday that the man was at the Chatham woman's home. However, she refused to let officers enter the residence. After getting a warrant, officers searched the home and found the man hiding in the attic.

Police said a knife was seized during the search and arrest process.

Wanted man arrested

A 28-year-old man wanted for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample has been arrested. Police said he was found on Grant Street in Chatham on Thursday.

He was charged and later released with a future court date scheduled for December 23.
