Jim Aitcheson has been re-acclaimed as Perth County Warden.
Aitcheson was re-elected on Thursday, December 3rd at the county council meeting and will serve his second consecutive term as Warden. He says despite the challenges of COVID-19 in his first term, there are some key things to tackle in 2021.
"The next year we hope to finish off with our planning review services and the other thing that kind of got put on the back burner this year was our official plan, we wanted to get that kind of cleaned up this past year but now that is in a priority area for us."
Aitcheson says getting businesses setup for more online business to help with COVID-19, as well as launching the new PC Connect transit service were major accomplishments this year. He says in terms of this year's budget, COVID-19 will have an impact but he's hoping not a huge one.
"It's going to have an impact, I'm hoping not a huge one, though. Staff has been made aware we need to keep the increase as low as possible. Businesses and individuals are struggling through this, and it's not the time to afford a high increase."
On top of the budget, Aitcheson says there are other key projects that they would like to get done in Perth County in 2021, including forming an affordable and attainable housing committee and a new multiculturalism and anti-racism project.
In addition to Warden Aitcheson serving a second term, the Mayor of the Township of Perth East, Rhonda Ehgoetz was also acclaimed for a second term serving as Deputy Warden.
