A lost pet can be heartbreaking, but a local animal rescue group is hoping to ensure furry friends don't stay lost for long by holding a microchip clinic.
Pet and Wildlife Rescue is offering the service at $20 per animal on December 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Pre-registration is required so that there are not too many people waiting at once.
A release from the shelter said each microchip is as small as a grain of rice and is painless for most pets. Each microchip contains an ID number that will help identify who the pet belongs to when it is scanned.
"We see the benefits of microchipping every day. We recently were part of a wonderful reunion between a family and their cat, Pablo. Pablo was missing for four weeks and was found outside a bush over seven kilometres away from his home," read a media release. "When he was brought into PAWR, we were ecstatic that he had a microchip and we could call his family to tell them he was found safe and was ready to go home."
Microchipping can be done at any age. Owners should note that after a microchip is inserted, it's important to notify one's veterinarian of any address or phone number changes to make sure the information on file is up to date.
