Huron County council voted against supporting a letter from an Exeter business person concerned about Huron and Perth counties moving into the orange zone in the Province's new colour-coded COVID-19 pandemic framework.
The letter was presented to council by South Huron Mayor, George Finch, who explained the person was concerned about the restrictions being imposed on businesses in South Huron and Huron County as a result of outbreaks at a retirement home in Stratford and a cluster in Perth East.
Finch explained the concern is about each county being a different colour.
"There's concerns about each county being a different colour zone and the person who wrote the letter had some very valid points. What he's looking at is some flexibility on the local area Medical Officer of Health, flexibility if they wish to divide the county. That's really what this is all about."
The feeling among county councillors was that it's difficult to know where to draw the line, or border, and what happens in one area could be putting pressure on health care capacity in other areas, so it was best to err on the side of caution and the motion to support the letter was defeated.
