Contact tracing is underway after public health officials said a confirmed case of COVID-19 may have had unprotected contact with others at Grey Bruce Health Services.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit said a person who tested positive for the virus may have had contact with staff and other patients at the Owen Sound hospital. However, a COVID-19 outbreak has not been declared.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit is currently working with the individual who tested positive and with Grey Bruce Health Services. Health officials said on Saturday, they are in the early stages of finding out who might be at risk of transmission.
Anyone who had direct contact with a confirmed case, either at or outside the hospital, will be contacted by Public Health directly. Those who are not contacted by public health officials will not need to take certain measures such as getting a COVID-19 test.
"There is no value in anyone being tested ahead of this. Early testing results would be unreliable and would put individuals at risk of more testing than is required," read a media release from the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Sixteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Grey Bruce on Saturday afternoon. There were also four new cases in West Grey and one new case in Hanover. Grey Bruce Health Unit reports there are 56 actives cases in the region.
Huron Perth and Grey Bruce will move under different tiers of the province's COVID-19 framework on Monday.
