With the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Wellington County on the rise, the Chief Nursing Officer with Wellington-Guelph-Dufferin Public Health says it's essential everyone does their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Last week, Section 22 orders under the Health Protection and Promotion Act were hand-delivered to elders of several Old Order Mennonite Communities in Mapleton, Minto and Wellington North after new COVID-19 cases spiked in the area. That included the temporary closure of churches and schools.
Regarding one of the outbreaks, Rita Isley says "we have been working with the community of that parochial school to provide education and support, so they understand the progression of the disease and they know how to prevent it".
Despite the outbreaks in these schools, Isley did state COVID-19 cases in most public schools around Wellington County remain very low, saying, "We have seen COVID in schools in our area, but I must say, overall, schools across our area have done an excellent job of containing COVID-19 and stopping the spread".
