Many local students are making the switch between online and in-class learning this week.
Parents and students within the public and Catholic school boards were given the option to make the switch last month.
Lambton Kent District School Board Director of Education John Howitt said 135 elementary students and 290 secondary students are moving from in-class to online.
"And then moving from virtual to face-to-face, in the elementary panel that's 220 students, and in the secondary panel, that's 90 students."
Howitt said he was a little bit surprised with the numbers, based on what other areas of the province were seeing.
"I would suggest that these numbers are fairly stable -- over 22,000 students, to be talking in the hundreds and a net difference of not many students back and forth. I think it speaks volumes of the quality of the programming the students are receiving in their current program of delivery, that has the students remaining stable predominately."
Howitt said it also speaks volume to LKDSB staff and the programs set up to meet students' needs.
At the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, 30 elementary students will move to virtual learning and 60 will return to face-to-face learning. About 40 high school students will return to class while 60 will learn at home.
