Perth-Wellington MP John Nater will be honouring veterans differently this year for Remembrance Day.
Due to COVID-19, mass gatherings are prohibited, so Nater will be attending small ceremonies around the two counties and laying wreaths at the local cenotaphs throughout the day. Many municipalities are hosting virtual ceremonies that residents can watch online.
Nater will travel to Mitchell, Listowel, Arthur, Mount Forest, Harriston, Palmerston and Drayton throughout the morning and early afternoon to lay wreaths at those local cenotaphs. Representatives for MP Nater will attend ceremonies in Stratford, Milverton, St. Marys and Rannoch.
“With physical distancing guidelines preventing us from having our usual Remembrance services and other events, Canadians across the country are finding different ways to thank our veterans and recognize the sacrifices of those who served,” said Nater. “I would like to thank all the Legions and municipalities of Perth—Wellington for their work in arranging virtual Remembrance Ceremonies.”
“This year I was honoured to participate in the Second World War Tribute program. Over the coming days, I will be presenting commemorative lapel pins to 29 World War II veterans living in Perth—Wellington.”
“On Remembrance Day morning I look forward to laying wreaths on behalf of the Dominion of Canada at several local cenotaphs before attending small services in Palmerston and Drayton. Although we are unable to thank our brave Veterans in person, it is important to find other ways to remember and honour their service to our country.”
