Man arrested twice in the same day
A 32-year-old Chatham man is facing multiple mischief and theft-related charges after he was arrested, charged, released, and then arrested again -- all in the same day.
Chatham-Kent police said they picked the man up the first time Sunday morning after they received a tip about a suspicious man on Queen Street in Chatham.
Police said a concerned citizen saw the man force his way into a vehicle and remove several items from inside.
Officers were able to find a suspect and arrested him a short distance away from the scene. Police were able to recover the stolen items and returned them to their rightful owner.
The man who allegedly took them was later charged with mischief and theft, then released from custody.
Police said that same afternoon, the man was reportedly seen stealing a bicycle from a property on Wellington Street in Chatham.
Once again, officers found the man, arrested him, and charged him with theft and possession of stolen property.
The accused was then released for the second time on Sunday pending a future court date.
