Operation Cover Up collecting winter coats

The Chatham-Kent Salvation Army is once again collecting gently used winter coats.

Donations for Operation Cover Up can be dropped off at any of the Salvation Army thrift store locations in Chatham, Wallaceburg, and Ridgetown, as well as at Jiffy Lube on Keil Drive in Chatham during regular business hours.

Coats will be accepted until Friday, October 23.

"We're always in need of kids sizes and plus sizes," said Family Service Manager Allie Matthews. "With our kid sizes, we also provide snow pants with that. It's definitely a huge need is our snow pants for our kids and definitely plus sizes, and men's especially."

Matthews said they will start handing out the coats on Monday, October 26.

"Anyone that is in need of a winter coat can go to any of our family services locations to obtain a coupon, and then in turn they can redeem it at our thrift stores for a winter coat anyone in the family."

Matthews added that the need is always growing.

"Last year (2019) we handed out just over 800 coats at all three of our locations, so it is quite a large population that we help."

They just ask that you make sure there are no rips or stains and that you wash the coats before donating them.
