PSWs getting a temporary raise

The provincial government is giving some personal support workers a raise.

The pay raise comes into effect on October 1, 2020. Eligible workers in publicly funded home and community care, long-term care, hospitals and children services will receive a $2-$3 an hour raise. The temporary raise could be in effect until March 31, 2021.

"We know the wages of PSWs do not reflect the critical role they have played throughout this pandemic, in addition to their ongoing care of our loved ones," said Premier Doug Ford. "Today's temporary investment will bridge that gap and ensure this vital profession receives the appreciation and respect it deserves."

Over 147,000 workers will get a raise across the province.

The government is also investing in education programs and retention programs to attract more people to the sector to support hospitals and long-term care facilities during the second wave.
