Parts of southwestern Ontario in for frosty start to the weekend

Anyone with outdoor flowers and vegetable gardens will want to cover up their plants Friday night.

Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Elgin County, and Oxford County as patchy frost is expected to develop as the temperature drops to zero during the overnight hours.

The cooler-than-usual temperatures are expected to continue Saturday and Sunday with daytime highs around 15 C. That's roughly five degrees cooler than the average high for this time of year. More frost is likely Saturday night, according to the national weather agency.

In order to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees from potential damage and destruction, the greenery should be covered with a blanket or burlap. Hanging or potted plants can be tucked away in sheds or brought inside houses.

More seasonal temperatures return to the region on Tuesday.
