The Grey Bruce Labour Council plans a big celebration on Labour Day Monday, despite COVID-19 restrictions.
For at least 50 years the Labour Council has staged a parade, usually in Port Elgin. This Monday they've organized a car cavalcade to travel all over Grey and Bruce with stops along the way. Labour Council President Kevin Smith says it's important to recognize the workers that make such a difference.
"We need to celebrate labour. We need to celebrate the accomplishments of every worker particularly with COVID-19. We know that essential workers and all those on the front lines have gone above and beyond what we would normally see people do so it is incredibly important this year," says Smith.
The Grey Bruce Labour Council car cavalcade Monday starts in Meaford at 11AM. From there it goes to Owen Sound, Southampton, Port Elgin, Paisley, Chesley, Hanover and ends in Walkerton.
Says Smith, "Hopefully we're going to have a great day, hopefully the weather cooperates and it's not raining but whether it is or whether it isn't we're going to have the best celebration we can possibly have under these uncertain times."
