Fanshawe to postpone fall convocation ceremonies

Around 2,100 Fanshawe College students who have completed their studies and are looking forward to their convocation will have to wait a little longer to celebrate their achievements.

The college announced on Thursday that it has made the decision to postpone all fall convocation ceremonies that were scheduled to take place in St. Thomas, Woodstock, Simcoe, London, and Huron/Bruce between October and November of this year.

“Students have persevered through a very difficult time to complete their studies under extraordinary circumstances,” said Michele Beaudoin, vice president of Student Services, in a news release. “We are very proud of their accomplishments and we know how disappointing this news will be."

The college said the decision was made based on the current public health restrictions on large indoor gatherings.

"We look forward to celebrating their achievements when the threat of the pandemic has subsided," Beaudoin added.

An in-person celebration is tentatively being planned for next spring for the 2020 graduates, however, it will depend on what the regulations are pertaining to large public gatherings.

In the meantime, the college plans to honour the achievements of its students by launching a graduation celebration webpage.
