Possible COVID-19 exposure at Tecumseh gym, Malden Road Tim Hortons

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is once again issuing a public alert for potential exposure to COVID-19 at a pair of establishments in the community.

On Sunday afternoon, the health unit issued the alert for Xanadu Gym in Tecumseh and the Tim Hortons located at 5775 Malden Rd. in Windsor.

According to the health unit, individuals positive for COVID-19 attended these locations while infectious.

Anyone who visited Xanadu on August 19, 20, 21, 25 and 26 is asked to take the online COVID-19 self-assessment and monitor for symptoms.

Meanwhile, anyone who visited the Malden Road Tim Hortons on August 25 is asked to do the same.

According to Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the health unit is identifying close contacts of the positive cases through contact tracing efforts and will notify close contacts directly to provide further direction.

“We understand that symptoms of COVID-19 can be mild and may be easily dismissed. It is imperative that the residents understand the symptoms of COVID-19 and continue to stay home when they are ill, take the online COVID-19 self-assessment and get tested for COVID-19,” said Ahmed.

Both establishments have voluntarily closed for cleaning.

The health unit adds that there is no known risk to anyone who attended the locations outside of the specified dates.

On Saturday, a potential COVID-19 exposure alert was issued for Spirit Halloween in Devonshire Mall.

The health unit also reported six new cases of the virus on Sunday, bringing the local total to 2,517.

Three of the latest cases are through close contact, one is a retirement home resident and two cases remain under investigation.
