Man allegedly pulls hammer on store employee
An apparent case of shoplifting turned violent at the Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Police said a 29-year-old man allegedly swiped a bottle of cologne from the store on Tuesday night. An employee approached the man outside and an argument between the two started.
Officers were called after the man allegedly took a swing at the employee with a hammer.
The 29-year-old, who was under a probation order to not attend the store, was found nearby shortly after the incident was reported. He was charged with assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, and failing to comply with his probation order.
He has a future court date scheduled for September 22. ---------
Headlock used in Chatham assault
A 38-year-old Chatham man is facing a couple of charges after he allegedly put someone in a headlock and damaged their vehicle.
Police said there was a disturbance involving two men in a parking lot at a convenience store in Chatham on Tuesday.
It's alleged the 38-year-old punched out the window of the other man's vehicle. He's also accused of putting the other male in a headlock and "striking him several times".
The Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5,000. He has a future court date scheduled for September 23. ----------
Alleged drunk driver charged
A Kingsville woman is accused of driving while drunk after a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole in Tilbury.
Chatham-Kent police said the single-vehicle collision happened on Stewart Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers suspected the driver of being under the influence of alcohol so she was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests.
A 33-year-old Kingsville woman was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and driving while prohibited. She was released from police custody with a future court date set for September 9.

A man from London has been charged after a four-vehicle crash in Chatham sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.
The crash happened Tuesday morning at the intersection of Keil Drive and Richmond Street.
A 37-year-old London man was charged with careless driving. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

Woman bit during domestic-related assault
A 59-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault after he allegedly bit a woman on the nose.
Police said the couple got into an argument on Tuesday morning. However, the situation escalated.
Officers found and arrested the accused on Tuesday night.

Pickup truck reported stolen
Chatham-Kent police are looking for a GMC pickup truck, reported stolen from a parking lot on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Officers said the truck was taken around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates 585 8FS.
