Golf fundraiser scores $75,000 for Urology services in CK

Support continues to pour in for Chatham-Kent's recently restarted urology program.

This time, it was from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s (CKHAF) 15th Annual Pro/Am Golf Tournament presented by Entegrus at Maple City Country Club on Friday, August 14, 2020.

The tournament raised more than $75,000 towards the purchase of a new C-Arm, which is a key piece of imaging equipment for the local urology services. Those services are just starting up again in Chatham-Kent after a five-year hiatus.

CKHA’s new Urologist, Dr. Hamidreza Abdi also took part in the tournament and said he was excited for the chance to meet donors and sponsors of the event.

"Donor support is absolutely critical to our hospital and I know that the Chatham-Kent community has stepped up time and again for excellence in health care right here in the region, including for our new Urology service," said Dr. Abdi in a release from the CKHAF.

Officials with the CKHAF also noted that even though this year's tournament featured a new format and a number of changes to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, it still sold out and received strong support from donors and sponsors.

"It was incredible to receive such a positive response when we announced we were able to host the tournament with restrictions in place," said Mary Lou Crowley, president & CEO of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. "We are especially grateful to our Presenting Sponsor, Entegrus, our featured sponsors CF Industries, Precise ParkLink, and Schinkels’ Gourmet Meats, as well as all of our event sponsors who continued to support the event without hesitation."

Construction started earlier this summer at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance to accommodate urology and other surgical procedures in a new state of the art operating room area -- that work is expected to be complete by October 2020.

For inquiries about CKHA's Urology program, Dr. Abdi's office can be reached at 519.352.6401 extension 5770.
