A 38-year-old Chatham man has been charged after he allegedly left a dog inside of a hot car.
Chatham-Kent police said officers were notified of the incident on Tuesday afternoon after the dog was spotted inside of a car in a parking lot on St. Clair Street in Chatham-Kent.
According to Environment Canada, the temperature on Monday reached 30 C with humidex values in the mid-30s.
The vehicle had left the parking lot by the time officers arrived. However, they were later able to find the dog owner at his home.
As a result, the 38-year-old has been charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle when weather conditions were not suitable and issued a $365 ticket.
Police are once again reminding residents to not leave pets unattended inside of vehicles.
"Even though the windows of your vehicle are down slightly, it is still too hot outside to leave your pet unattended while you run errands," read a media release from CKPS. "Please leave your pets at home where it’s cool and safe!"
