Supporting local business with 'The Big Spend'

Area residents are being encouraged to support local businesses.

The Sarnia-Lambton Business/Economic Task Force has joined the national 'Big Spend' initiative.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Mark Perrin said on Saturday July 25, across the country, people are asked to shop local.

"We know that throughout COVID-19, it's really impacted all businesses, but especially local small businesses and that they provide nearly 70 per cent of the jobs across Canada," said Perrin. "So, this 'Big Spend' initiative is to get out and support a local small business. Instead of maybe your normal shopping routine, or saying you've always wanted to go there or try something from that restaurant, go and make a purchase at one of those local small businesses."

Perrin said the goal is to inject $100 million into the Canadian economy on Saturday alone.

The founder of 'The Big Spend', National Director of Leading Influence Tim Schnidel said the special effort will help kick start the Canadian economic recovery process.

“In my work with Leading Influence, I get to meet with and support leaders from across Canada," said Schnidel. "Kick-starting our economy is on all of their minds. 'The Big Spend' became an intensely practical, and I might add, easy way to help Canada start down the road to recovery in every city across our nation.”
