Face masks to become mandatory on CK Transit

The use of face coverings will become mandatory on CK Transit buses starting on Wednesday.

Riders will now be required to wear a cloth mask or a face covering prior to entering the bus and continue to wear it until they exit the bus.

The municipality removed seating limits earlier this week and said physical distancing will not always be possible on buses with ridership increasing as Chatham-Kent continues to enter Stage 3 of Ontario’s COVID-19 Reopening Plan.

"Chatham-Kent continues to support physical distancing wherever possible which is in concert with Provincial Health Guidelines," municipal officials said in a statement issued Friday afternoon.

They encourage the public to keep two metres between themselves and others and practice good personal hygiene, including frequent handwashing with soap and water or using hand sanitizer. They also ask people to stay home if they have any cold or flu-like symptoms. Officials added CK Transit continues to perform enhanced cleaning on all vehicles.
