Lambton College will be taking a "hybrid learning" approach to ensure that students feel safe when they resume their studies this fall.
The next semester is scheduled to begin on September 14, and will feature mostly online learning.
Labs will still be done in an applied learning environment at the college which has seen about 100 students over the summer.
President and CEO Judy Morris said they're also taking a number of precautions including signage, hand sanitizers, and COVID-19 screening.
"We're requiring everyone, employees and staff, to wear masks where they can't social distance," Morris told an online community news conference Tuesday.
"Students will want to congregate in the halls and that's understandable, they're students and that's what they're there for because they're social beings. So, if they wear a mask then they can still congregate a little bit. We're going to be offering some residence services, so there will be one student per room and one student per washroom."
Morris said they have had success in developing a "plan ahead team" which focuses on things like academics, student success, international, operations, innovation and economic development.
She said they usually have about 3,500 students enrolled but estimates about a third of that number this fall. She said she wouldn't be surprised if pandemic protocols carry over into the winter term in January.
Morris added they're doing everything they can to make sure students have an enjoyable experience by implementing things like e-sports tournaments, an e-pub, scavenger hunts, and outdoor fitness activities.
