Local Medical Officer of Health says eliminating COVID right now is 'not realistic'

Huron Perth Public Health Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen said she agrees with several health experts who recently stated that the goal of completely eliminating COVID-19 is not realistic.

She also agreed it's far more realistic to work hard to flatten the curve and control it.

“I think that the idea that we could eliminate COVID-19 in Canada or Ontario and completely seal off the border is not realistic and so I do think it is more realistic that we work really hard to flatten the curve and control it and now we need to learn to live with it.”

Klassen said experience has shown if we follow the guidelines we can control COVID-19 and then we can continue to re-open the province under the new normal. She also adds, the discovery of an effective vaccine will be the real game-changer.
