Impaired Driving

A Wallaceburg man has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle crashed early Monday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded to a single vehicle collision just before 1 a.m. on Wallace Street between Bridge Street and Murray Street in Wallaceburg.

Police suspected the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol. A roadside test was done but the man failed. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further breath tests.

He is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Obstructing Police

A suspect has found out the hard way that stealing and lying to police come with serious consequences.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man early Monday morning after someone reported a suspicious man sitting in a red car in the area of Elizabeth Street and Grand Avenue in Chatham. A Ford Focus was found in an alley but the officer discovered the license plates were registered to a silver BMW. The man was arrested and the license plates were seized.

The suspect then gave the officer a false name but the officer discovered his real name after a search and that he was under probation with a curfew.

The 40-year-old man was charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime, obstructing police, and failing to comply with his probation order.
