UPDATE: Environment Canada ends severe thunderstorm warning

Environment Canada has ended all severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm on Friday capable of producing up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

Localized rainfall of 50-75 mm was also forecasted.

The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Elgin County, and Oxford County, which was then downgraded to a watch before being rescinded at around 9 p.m.

It was just over a week ago, a severe storm system led to two tornadoes touching down in Belmont and the Newbury/Glencoe area. The twisters snapped tress and hydro poles, damaged a building, and tossed a snowmobile across a yard. Environment Canada determined both were on the lower end of the Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale, with one registering as an EF0 and the other as an EF1.
