UPDATE: Arrest made after home invasion in Ridgetown

Chatham-Kent police have made one arrest and they are still looking for two other suspects after a violent home invasion in Ridgetown earlier this week.

Police reported earlier that three men carrying baseball bats broke into an apartment on Victoria Avenue at around 5 a.m. Sunday, knocking over the homeowner as she unlocked the door.

The three men then assaulted two men who were inside the apartment at the time and then took off before police arrived.

Officers were able to identify one suspect who they allege was responsible for the attack and arrested him on Monday.

A 33-year-old Ridgetown man is now facing several break and enter and assault-related charges. He was later released pending a future court date. Police said the suspect was released with several conditions, including not to communicate with the victims.

Police are still looking for the other two men involved in the incident, which they believe was a targeted attack and not an act of random violence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Paul Brophy at paulb@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 619. Anonymous callers can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
