Hundreds roll through drive-thru COVID-19 testing in Wallaceburg

Plans are underway to organize another drive-through and walk-up COVID-19 testing clinic in Chatham-Kent.

That's after three successful days of testing at a mobile clinic on June 11, 12, and 13 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance's (CKHA) Sydenham Campus in Wallaceburg.

"In total, we did 436 swabs over the course of those three days," said CKHA President and CEO Lori Marshall. "I think on the Friday it was 168. So, definitely a model that we think works."

Marshall said the testing numbers exceeded her expectations.

"I was out there on the first day, just to sort of watch and see how things were going. It was really beautifully set up in terms of just the logistics, and the drive-thru," said Marshall. "People had to wait a little bit, but certainly, it seemed to be very efficient."

No other drive-thru COVID-19 testing clinics have been announced yet in Chatham-Kent, but Marshall said they're working on it.

"We're in conversation right now with Public Health, and our partners at EMS, the community paramedics, to see how it is we could perhaps take this kind of model into other areas of Chatham-Kent."
