As of June 19, residents will no longer be able to drop-off donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) at the Thames Campus Arena.
The donation centre, which started operating on April 15, will close at 2:30 p.m. next Friday.
However, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will continue to accept PPE donations at the Civic Centre in Chatham on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Since its establishment, the Thames Campus Arena donation centre has collected 54,612 items of PPE from 32 organizations and individuals.
“Chatham-Kent always comes through,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff in a statement. “Whether it’s the PPE drive or the May 16 Miracle, the generosity is deep and genuine. I can’t thank residents enough for how they’ve come together in this time of need.”
The list of items donated so far includes:
- 33,950 gloves - 18,200 disposable face masks - 160 N95 masks - 200 KN95 masks - 1,245 handmade face masks - 76 handmade scrub caps - 570 visors and shields - 54 goggles - 100 ear savers - 25 intubation boxes
Donations made at the Civic Centre in small quantities can be left at the main entrance to the building. However, those with a large donation requiring more than one person to carry items, are asked to call ahead at (519) 360-1998.
