St. Clair conservation to begin phased-in camping season

Overnight seasonal camping is returning at three St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) campgrounds.

The SCRCA said starting June 5, seasonal campers can begin enjoying overnight stays at the A.W. Campbell, Lorne C. Henderson and Warwick conservation areas.

In an email to BlackburnNews.com, Manager of Conservation Areas Greg Wilcox said its phased-in opening of the 2020 camping season will feature a number of changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"All campers will be required to use their own washroom facilities as ours will be closed. Many facilities will be closed to start the season including basketball and volleyball courts, pavilions, playgrounds, and horseshoe pits. Pools will be closed for the 2020 season."

Wilcox said SCRCA is taking a number of steps to help visitors stay safe.

"Staff will be cleaning all commonly touched surfaces at increased frequencies. Gatherings and social events will be cancelled until it is safe to resume these activities. SCRCA will be requiring all campers to follow provincial and local guidelines for COVID-19. We ask that any recreational camper who has symptoms remain at home and if they develop symptoms while camping please go home and follow public health guidelines."

Non-seasonal, transient overnight camping (ie., those who do not have seasonal trailers and come for shorter periods of time) will remain cancelled until at least June 10.
