Windsor Regional Hospital has loosened some restrictions on visitors to its campuses.
On Saturday, the hospital began to allow all patients to have one visitor during specific times, with a few exceptions. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, WRH had placed restrictions on visitors to most patients in an effort to slow down the spread of the virus.
Patients are allowed only one visitor a day, the visitor can choose from one of the three two-hour blocks that are available.
The time frames are 10 a.m. to noon, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The hospital has granted some exceptions based on the kind of care the patient is receiving, as follows:
- For maternity patients and those in the emergency department, one visitor is allowed over 24 hours.
- For pediatric patients or those in the NICU, one visitor is allowed at a time, with a total of two people who can relieve each other over 24 hours. This arrangement is also for patients who are palliative but not in critical care.
- For a patient who is palliative or on an extended stay in critical care, one visitor can access two two-hour blocks, for a total of two visitors who can relieve each other.
- For a patient who is in end-of-life, two visitors are allowed over 24 hours.
- In the Cancer Centre, one visitor is allowed for in-person appointments only.
- For Mental Health, visitation returns to regular hours of 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with one visitor per patient.
- In the Renal Program, no visitors are allowed while the patient is beginning or ending dialysis.
Visitors are still not allowed for admitted patients with COVID-19.
