Medical Officer of Health rescinds order for beach closures in Grey and Bruce

The Medical Officer of Health for Grey/Bruce, Dr. Ian Arra, has rescinded an order to close all beaches in Grey and Bruce counties.

The order was put into effect on May 14th as a way of sending a message provincially that Grey and Bruce Counties are not open for tourism yet, and to prevent mass one day gatherings during the Victoria Day long weekend. Dr. Arra notes in the release on May 28th that the risk of COVID-19 transmission remains, and that rescinding this mandatory order does not mean beaches are open to the public.

Dr. Arra is recommending that individual municipalities adopt by-laws to keep public beaches restricted within Grey and Bruce counties. The risk of gatherings on beaches could lead to a surge in COVID-19 transmissions and cases for the health unit, and the public must be aware that the rescinding of this order from the Medical Officer of Health does not mean beaches are open for use.
