It was a busy night for emergency crews in Chatham-Kent overnight as firefighters were called to two house fires and a plane crash.
The first fire was at 1030 Kerr Ave. in Erieau -- firefighters from Station 14 in Erieau were called to the scene at around 2 a.m. Tuesday to investigate reports of smoke coming from the home. They arrived on scene within minutes, but by that time, the home was already fully engulfed in flames.
Chatham-Kent police said a 73-year-old woman was found dead in the residence. The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.

Fire crews were also called to a fire at a home at 525 Creek St. in Wallaceburg at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result of the fire in Wallaceburg and the damage was estimated at $100,000. The cause is still under investigation.
In the meantime, a small bi-plane crashed at the municipal airport just outside of Chatham at around 9 p.m. Monday night, as well. Chatham-Kent police said the plane sustained about $50,000 worth of damage on the runway while landing, but the pilot and his passenger were both uninjured.
Transport Canada is now taking the lead in the investigation.
