Lambton OPP have laid their first charge against an individual for violating rules under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).
On May 19, police said a group of five people was having a bonfire and lighting fireworks on the main beach in Grand Bend.
Police said they educated them about the pandemic legislation and didn't lay charges but were called back the next night to the same area where the same people had gathered.
A 27-year-old from Kitchener was charged with failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency.
The OPP said they'll continue to educate the public about the rules under the EMCPA and enforce through a charge as a last resort.
Public beaches remain closed by provincial order.
