Three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the London-area.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said on Wednesday all of the newly confirmed cases are related to long-term care homes and retirement facilities. One resident and one staff member at a local nursing home and a resident at an area retirement home are the latest to test positive for the virus.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the region is 487. There were no new deaths associated with the virus reported on Wednesday, leaving the death toll at 48.
The London Health Sciences Centre has 17 infected patients in its care, only one of whom is listed in the intensive care unit. The number of hospital employees to have contacted COVID-19 has risen to 41, up from 39 last week. However, not all of the cases among staff can be linked back to the hospital.
There have been 341 resolved cases since the start of the outbreak, according to public health officials.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, there were no new deaths or cases of COVID-19 reported. The two counties' total number of cases remains at 65. The area’s death toll stands at four, according to Southwestern Public Health. Fifty-six of the cases have been resolved.
Ontario public health officials are reporting the number of new cases in the province has dropped back below 400. Over the last 24 hours, 390 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of Ontario cases to 23,774.
On Tuesday, 427 cases were confirmed, the first time in over a week the number of new cases reported in a single day climbed back over the 400 mark.
There were 43 additional deaths recorded on Wednesday, bringing the total number of people to die from the virus in the province to 1,962.
Public health officials said the number of people to recover from the virus is now 18,190.
According to the latest epidemiological summary, there are currently 991 patients in hospital with the virus, 160 in intensive care.
Four more outbreaks have been confirmed at long-term care homes across the province, bringing the total to 284. The number of residents in those facilities to die as a result of the virus is 1,427. There have been four COVID-19 related deaths among workers at long-term care homes in Ontario.
