Lockdown Learning Series addressing chronic pain treatment

The fourth installment of Sarnia Doctor Blake Pearson's online Lockdown Learning Series will focus on treating chronic pain.

He will be joined by a chiropractor and acupuncture practitioner, Dr. Michael Anning, and physical therapist Ryan Cross to discuss medical and physical pain management options during the pandemic.

Doctor Pearson said they will give home exercise and stretching instructions, general tips to better manage pain at home, and an idea of what to expect as medical services start to reopen.

He said about 70 per cent of his patients are referred because of chronic pain issues like fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and chronic low back pain.

"One in six Canadians suffer from chronic pain so severe that it impacts their day-to-day activities and reduces their overall quality of life," he said.

"These people have been particularly hard hit during the pandemic as many surgeries, patient visits, injections, infusions and other pain management services have been postponed or cancelled altogether. This has a huge effect on our chronic pain patients, many of whom are older and higher risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus."

The free virtual event is being held on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

For more information and to register, go to www.drblakepearson.org/events.

Depending on public interest, Doctor Pearson said he’ll continue to run the seminars as long as we’re in isolation mode.
