A total of 20 local agencies have now received money from the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton COVID-19 Compassion Fund.
The Alzheimer Society, Salvation Army, and Mid Valley Seniors Apartment complex in Petrolia are the latest grant recipients, receiving $5,000 each.
The Alzheimer Society said COVID-19 has forced the closure of programming which could lead to caregiver burnout. Funds will be used to purchase equipment for client calls and to develop activity kits for those living with dementia to provide some relief to caregivers.
The Salvation Army Food Bank will use the money to purchase cleaning supplies, denture cream, incontinence products and nutritional meal replacement drinks.
And, funds at Mid Valley will be used to increase tenant safety with further cleaning, cleaning supplies and sanitation wash station rentals.
United Way of Sarnia-Lambton volunteer President Jason Killingsworth said they aren’t able to make this measurable impact in the community without the donors who have chosen to help.
"The power of your donation is being felt in every aspect of our lives as we continue to help youth, families and seniors," he said.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has approved a total of $99,000 in compassion funding.
