Strong winds in the forecast have prompted the local conservation authority to issue a flood watch for the Great Lakes shorelines.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVA) issued the watch on Saturday morning.
Wind speeds on both Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair are predicted to reach up to 35 km/hr on Saturday and last into Monday, resulting in waves of up to 1 metre. Forecasts also suggest there could be around 10 mm of rain on Sunday.
As a result, flooding is possible in Lighthouse Cove, Rondeau Bay and along Erie Shore Drive.
"Due to high lake levels, there is a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion all along the shoreline, including along the high bluff areas," LTVCA officials said. "Residents and workers in shoreline areas should pay attention to local conditions and be prepared."
