Another speeder arrested for going way too fast

Life is about to slow down very quickly for a 25-year-old Chatham man who was charged with stunt driving after he was spotted zipping down Middle Line Saturday night.

Police said they recorded the man driving 135 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver's license has been suspended and his vehicle has been taken away for seven days as a result. He'll also be required to answer to the charge in court in August.

Police are using this example to remind drivers once again to slow down and stay safe.

Man smashes Wallaceburg drive-thru window

A 28-year-old man accused of throwing a rock through the drive-thru window of a Wallaceburg business has been charged with mischief.

Employees at the business on McNaughton Avenue noticed the broken window when they opened up Sunday morning and notified police. The damage was estimated at around $500.

Officers were able to identify a suspect using video surveillance and arrested him at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The accused was charged and later released pending a future court date.

Two arrests made after domestic incidents

Chatham-Kent police have arrested two men who were both accused of threatening someone else over the weekend.

Police said in the first case, a 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats after officers were called to investigate a "domestic disturbance" Sunday morning.

The accused in that case was later released with a future court date.

In the second case, a 37-year-old man was arrested after allegedly grabbing a kitchen knife during an argument with his common-law spouse on Sunday and holding it in a threatening manner towards her.

Officers said the woman ran away and called police. By the time officers had arrived, though, the accused had already taken off on his bicycle. Police were able to find him later and arrested him.

He was charged with assault with a weapon and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Impaired driver stopped after traffic complaint

A 50-year-old Tilbury man will have to get around without a driver's license for the next month and a half after someone tipped off police about a possible impaired driver on the road.

Police said they got a call about a black Ford Explorer that was heading west on Longwoods Road at around 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The officer who pulled the vehicle over in Chatham believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was taken to police headquarters for some breath tests.

He was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit -- he also had his driver's license suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for a week.

Wanted man arrested for shoplifting

A 42-year-old man who was already on the run from police was caught following a short foot chase Sunday night.

Police said the man -- who was wanted on several outstanding warrants -- was arrested while officers were following up on a call about a shoplifting incident at Circle K on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg that came in at around 6 p.m. Sunday. About $95 worth of items were reportedly stolen during the incident.

Police found the man outside the store and had to chase him down before arresting him.

The accused was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was also arrested on the outstanding warrants. He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police said they were called to investigate the incident in the parking lot of an apartment building in Chatham last week.

Officers said they were able to identify the suspect and arrested him Sunday night.

He was later released pending a future court date.
