Meat processors are struggling to stay open or are closing due to outbreaks of COVID-19 making a supply shortage a real possibility.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday forcing meat processing plants to stay open.
When asked if he would do the same, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government will balance worker safety with the need to keep grocery stores stocked.
Trudeau did not say if the federal government would ease rules on inspections to allow more inter-provincial shipments.
