Lucan Baconfest cancelled due to COVID-19

The smell of bacon frying and sound of motorcycles roaring won't fill the streets of Lucan this July.

Lucan Baconfest is the latest summer festival to be scrapped due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Event organizers took into account provincial public gathering restrictions and public health recommendations before cancelling the July 11 festivities.

"Riders and enthusiasts come to Baconfest to socialize, see each other’s motorcycles, watch the extreme shows, eat bacon, and enjoy live music but the world has dramatically changed this year. It was a difficult decision. We love this event but we just want to do the right thing and keep everyone safe," Baconfest Founders Mike Koricina and Teresa Burns said in a statement. "Our team will be reaching out to our camping guests and Hogland vendors who have registered for this year in the coming weeks to issue full refunds. We would like to thank you for your patience as we roll out this process."

Anyone who purchased tickets online for the performances by the Reklaws, Sons of Daughters, Dylan Burk and David Boyd Janes will be able to get refunds by replying to their original Ticketwindow.ca order confirmation email and writing 'please refund my order' with the order ID number in the subject line.

Cash refunds will be issued in person at the Lucan Arena on May 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and May 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Physical distancing measures will be in place.

The one-day festival, held on the second Saturday in July, will return in 2021, according to Baconfest organizers.

On Monday, organizers of TD Sunfest, Home County Music and Art Festival, and Start.ca Rock the Park announced those July festivals were being cancelled because of the global coronavirus outbreak.
