Flood warning issued for parts of Chatham-Kent

Strong winds in the forecast have prompted the local conservation authority to issue a flood warning for Erieau and Shrewsbury.

The warning was issued by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) on Sunday morning.

According to the release, the bayside of the Villages of Erieau and Shrewsbury are currently flooding, which is expected to continue until early Sunday evening.

"Currently, strong sustained wind speeds of 40-50 km/hour out of the north/northeast are creating and driving waves onshore in the area of Shrewsbury and Erieau off Rondeau Bay," stated the LTCVA release. "Multiple streets and adjacent properties near this area of Rondeau Bay are already flooding. Weather forecasts are calling for the winds speeds to slowly diminish over the course of the day."

Due to high lake levels, there is a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion all along the shoreline.

Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area is possible. Residents are reminded to take extra caution, pay attention to local conditions and be prepared.
